Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment in Lawrenceville

Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatments Designed for Your Child

Two-phase orthodontic treatment is broken down into two stages: An initial phase of early treatment, typically between the ages of 7 and 10, and a second phase after most or all of the child's baby teeth have been lost.

To learn more about two-phase treatment, please contact our office at (770) 629-9216.

Your child may be a candidate for two-phase treatment if they have not yet reached the age of seven.

At Raglin Orthodontics, we typically recommend that your child sees an orthodontist for the first time around the time they turn seven, which is when the permanent incisors and molars have come in. This allows us to see if there are any severe problems affecting their teeth that could be solved by orthodontic treatment.

The First Phase of Orthodontic Treatment

Upon an initial examination of your child's teeth, we may determine that early treatment is necessary. Although we only recommend Phase One treatment for a small percentage of patients, it may be necessary for the overall health of your child's smile. Phase One treatment can help to make space for your child's permanent teeth, improve airways, and prevent serious dental issues from developing later on.

A few examples of problems that may require early treatment include:

  • Severe crowding
  • Thumb sucking
  • Early tooth loss
  • Protruding teeth
  • Crooked teeth

A maintenance phase comes after the first phase has successfully improved irregularities and the appearance of the child's smile. During the maintenance phase, baby teeth are still falling out and some permanent teeth may have grown into place. Before the teeth can be fully evaluated for the second phase, all of the other permanent teeth must grow into place. A retainer may be necessary, which can be determined by your Lawrenceville orthodontist. Visit our early orthodontic treatment page to learn more about this treatment.

The Second Phase of Orthodontic Treatment

The main priority in the second phase of treatment is bite correction. This phase is also the time to ensure that the child's teeth are fully and properly aligned and to correct irregularities such as overcrowding, overbites, and underbites.

Raglin Orthodontics has been working with patients all over Duluth, Gwinnett County, and the Metro Atlanta area for 20 years and we are passionate about what we do.
